Certified Activity Director’s with “Conditions”

- Within two (2) years of being granted certification must complete the following courses to maintain certification.
- Completion of an approved course in Introduction To Therapeutic Recreation
- Completion of an approved course in Therapeutic Recreation Program Design
- Complete 2.0 Continuing Education Units (20 contact hours) related to the CTRAC Body of Knowledge and that meet the CEU requirements.
- Within two (2) years of being granted certification must complete the following courses to maintain certification.
Unemployed, or currently working in a job unrelated to therapeutic recreation/or activities, or retired

- Within your two (2) year certification cycle, you must complete a 3.0 CEU (30 contact hours) related to the CTRAC Body of Knowledge that meets the CEU requirements.
Employed in the field of Therapeutic Recreation/or Activities

- Within your two (2) year certification cycle, you must complete 2.0 CEU’s 20 contact hours) related to the CTRAC Body of Knowledge and that meet the CEU requirements.
NOTE: All applicants for recertification MUST submit documentation verifying the completion of 2.0/or 3.0 continuing education units or 20/or 30 contact hours from a CTRAC-endorsed educational source. All continuing education MUST correspond to the areas of the CTRAC Body of Knowledge.
CTRAC Body of Knowledge Areas:
CEUs MUST have been completed during the last two-year period. The Credential Review Panel will review and either accept or deny credit for the 2.0/or 3.0 continuing education units/or 20/or 30 contact hours submitted based on the following guidelines. |
Continuing Education Units must come from four areas of the CTRAC Body of Knowledge

- Workshops/Institutes/Conferences, Courses
- Continuing Education includes professional workshops, conferences, and other formal programs.
- Professional Presentations
- Presentations made at professional conferences, workshops, or institutes. A minimum length of 1 hour/maximum length of 10 hours.
- Professional presentations will be acknowledged as ie.: .4 ceu’s for a two-hour workshop not to include introductions, breaks, or meals.
- Online Continuing Education Unit’s: Correspondence, Online,/Webinar Courses. Limited to 1.0 ceu or 10 contact hours.
- Written Publication: books, articles, thesis, dissertations; limit 1.0 ceu or 10 contact hours for the approved author of the current published textbook/thesis & dissertation.
NOTE: Co-author publications are not accepted - Academics
- Limit 1.0 CEU (10 contact hours) for coursework. Academic coursework MUST relate to the therapeutic recreation/activity field. Attach an official transcript of the completed course.
