ABOUT CERTIFIED CTRAC INSTRUCTORS
The CTRAC education courses: CTRAC I, CTRAC II, TR I, TR II, and the Certified CTRAC Instructor Training course are the proprietary, evidence-based curriculum required to earn CTRAC certifications. The curriculum is offered by certified instructors who complete extensive training and undergo an intensive peer-review process. This process ensures the quality of professional education and adequately qualifies and prepares students to take the exam to achieve CTRAC certification. CTRAC is one of only three certifying bodies recognized in the Texas Administrative Code for therapeutic recreation/activities professionals. Certified CTRAC Instructors teach using approved education delivery methods: face-to-face, virtual, online, self-study, guided study, blended, etc.
The Activity Director portion of the curriculum, CTRAC I and CTRAC II, is structured as a two-part program, involving a total of 192 hours of educational learning and 192 hours of experiential learning that includes practicum work. Each part consists of 96 hours of coursework and 96 hours of practicum assignments.
The Therapeutic Recreation portion of the curriculum, TR I and TR II, is structured as a two-part program involving a total of 96 hours of interactive educational learning. TR I enhances knowledge of therapeutic recreation in the areas of disabling conditions, program development, inclusion, and service delivery. The focus of TR II is to broaden knowledge and understanding of the application of the philosophy and principles of therapeutic recreation, including programming, leadership, quality assurance, assessment, writing goals and outcome measures, facilitation and implementation techniques, adaptation, evaluation and discharge planning.
The Certified CTRAC Instructor Training course is structured as a two-part program, involving a total of 24 hours of interactive educational learning to become proficient with the CTRAC I and CTRAC II curricula, teaching techniques and skills, culminating with administration of the Certified CTRAC Instructor Certification exam. This training course is offered twice annually.
