Examination and Certification Dates
Examinations are given four times per year. Certificates are valid for two years and must be renewed. At the time of renewal, submission of two (2.0) continuing education units (ceu’s)/or twenty (20) contact hours, or equivalent academic credit is required to maintain certification status. Continuing education units may be earned by attending 20 hours of continuing education courses in the two (2) year period. Applications are due in the CTRAC office by

Applications received after the due date; the application will NOT be reviewed until the next scheduled meeting of the Credential Review Panel.

Recertification Renewal Dates
Renewal applications are due biennially (every 2 years) along with proof of two (2) continuing education units or 20 contact hours upon notice.
Recertification applications must be postmarked and mailed to the CTRAC office no later than the first day of March, June, September, or December. Applications received AFTER the due date; the application will NOT be reviewed until the next scheduled meeting of the Credential Review Panel.
A renewal notice will be sent out to certificate holders 60 days before expiration. A certificate holder not receiving a recertification renewal notice should contact the CTRAC office to ensure that records are up to date.
It is your responsibility to notify the CTRAC office of any change in your name, address, or phone number.

Fees
- Application Fee must accompany the application. This fee is nonrefundable.
- DO NOT submit the examination fee at this time examinee’s application must be reviewed and approved first then documentation will be mailed out when the sitting fee is required.
- The Examination Fee is due and payable if the applicant is eligible for examination. Notice, including a deadline for payment, will be sent to the applicant after the application has been reviewed by the Certification Review Panel. This fee is not refundable but, may be applied to the next examination cycle if the applicant is unable to take the examination and notify the CTRAC office not less than ten (10) business days before the examination date.
- The renewal Recertification Fee is due biennially (every 2 years) along with proof of two (2) continuing education units upon notice.
- Completion of the Therapeutic Recreation courses within two (2) years of Recertification ( Activity Directors with a “Conditional Status Level” ONLY)
A certificate holder not receiving a recertification renewal notice should contact the CTRAC office to ensure that records are up to date.
- Late fees are accumulated after day 31 of the certificate holder’s expiration date.
- Post-recertification fees are accumulated after day 31 of the certificate holder’s expiration date. After the first 30 days, the applicant will adhere to the following:
- Day 31-Day 90 post renewal date–Total $125.00
- Day 91-Day 180–Total $175.00
- Day 181-Day 270–Total $225.00
- Day 271-Day 365–Total $275.00
- Day 366-Must retake the CTRAC Examination
